Materials & Supply Chain Manager – Diesel Power Group

Position Overview:

The Materials & Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and delegating operational processes and procedures while ensuring uninterrupted production flow through proactive, hands-on leadership of sourcing, purchasing, shipping and receiving, inventory management, logistics, and supplier performance.

This role ensures technicians never wait on parts, inventory is accurate, suppliers perform at a high level, freight is controlled, and material cost is continuously reduced. This position is a primary driver of throughput, cash flow, cost structure, and customer delivery performance. The ideal candidate combines strategic sourcing expertise with direct operational leadership that thrives in a fast-paced growing organization.

Core Responsibilities:

Sourcing & Purchasing

  • Qualify and develop suppliers for blocks, heads, kits, components, and freight
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, rebates, and purchase agreements
  • Maintain >75% of annual expenditure under negotiated contracts
  • Establish multi-source strategies for critical components and mitigation plans for supply disruptions

Supplier Performance Management

  • Maintain supplier scorecards (On-Time Delivery, Quality, Lead Time, Cost, and Responsiveness)
  • Conduct periodic supplier reviews and corrective action processes
  • Drive supplier warranty recovery and credit processing

Shipping/Receiving & Inspection Control

  • Implement and enforce receiving inspection standards
  • Prevent incorrect or nonconforming parts from entering inventory and pre-production areas
  • Ensure core intake accuracy and documentation
  • Ensure timely receipt of materials and accurate documentation
  • Process warranty and core returns in a timely fashion
  • Manage outbound engine freight, crate standards, and LTL contracts

Inventory Management

  • Own Min/Max levels, bin accuracy, and cycle count program
  • Eliminate stockouts and reduce excess/obsolete inventory
  • Improve inventory turns and working capital performance
  • ERP / System Discipline (Odoo or similar)
  • Maintain accurate vendor files, lead times, MOQs, and part cost history
  • Align system data with actual production usage and demand

Production Alignment

  • Review shortages daily against build schedule
  • Ensure uninterrupted parts flow to technician benches
  • Participate in daily production meetings to resolve materials constraints

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+years in materials, procurement, or supply chain within an industrial or heavy equipment environment
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management capability
  • Experience leading warehouse/materials teams
  • Deep inventory and ERP discipline (Odoo experience preferred)
  • Understanding of diesel components and remanufacturing workflow preferred
  • Financial acumen related to margin, cash flow, and working capital

Leadership Expectations:

  • Train and develop purchasing, inventory, shipping/receiving, and warehouse personnel
  • Establish clear ownership, accountability, and performance expectations within shipping, receiving, inventory, and purchasing
  • Build strong supplier relationships while maintaining commercial leverage
  • Create a culture of accuracy, urgency, and continuous improvement within materials operations

Compensation:

The estimated salary range for this role is $75,000 to $90,000 plus incentives. Beginning salary is based on factors including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, education, and certifications.
