Math and Science Tutor

Tutoring Excellence is seeking a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and passionate Math and Science Tutor to provide exceptional academic support to students in advanced STEM subjects. This position is ideal for an educator who is committed to inspiring students, strengthening academic performance, and building confidence in complex material through personalized, high-quality instruction.

In this role, you will deliver engaging, customized tutoring sessions for advanced learners across a broad range of disciplines, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and computer science. The ideal candidate will be able to clearly explain challenging concepts, adapt instruction to meet individual student needs, and foster both academic growth and critical thinking.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement customized lesson plans based on each student’s academic level, curriculum, learning style, and long-term educational goals
  • Deliver engaging one-on-three tutoring sessions in advanced STEM subjects
  • Provide instruction in upper-level mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, differential equations, discrete mathematics, and statistics
  • Tutor students in advanced science disciplines such as physics, chemistry (organic and inorganic), biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, and engineering fundamentals
  • Support learning in computer science topics, including data structures, algorithms, and advanced problem-solving techniques
  • Integrate modern educational technology and instructional tools to enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes
  • Utilize rigorous instructional materials, assessments, and progress-monitoring strategies to reinforce mastery of complex concepts
  • Strengthen students’ higher-level academic skills, including analytical reasoning, scientific inquiry, mathematical modeling, data interpretation, and critical thinking
  • Foster a focused, positive, and productive learning environment while effectively managing student engagement and group dynamics
  • Communicate student progress, areas of growth, and instructional recommendations in a clear and professional manner

Qualifications and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of advanced mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, differential equations, discrete mathematics, and statistics
  • Strong academic background in science fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, and engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and computational thinking
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or tutoring advanced, honors-level, AP, dual-enrollment, college-preparatory, or higher education students
  • Exceptional ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, structured, and engaging manner
  • Strong classroom, small-group, or multi-student session management skills
  • Proficiency with educational technology platforms and digital tools for lesson delivery, student engagement, and progress tracking
  • Advanced computer proficiency for lesson planning, online instruction, and instructional resource development
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
  • Familiarity with special education strategies, accommodations, and differentiated instruction is a plus
  • Experience working with younger students is beneficial, but not required
