The K–8 Math Teacher will deliver high-quality math instruction to students in either elementary or middle school, depending on school needs and staffing. This teacher will use strong content knowledge and effective instructional strategies to help students build deep mathematical understanding, confidence, and problem-solving skills. The teacher will create a supportive classroom environment that promotes academic growth and high expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Planning
- Plan and deliver daily math lessons aligned to Louisiana Student Standards and school curriculum for the assigned grade(s).
- Use assessment data to guide instruction, identify learning gaps, and provide targeted interventions.
- Deliver small-group instruction and differentiate lessons based on student needs and academic readiness.
- Incorporate hands-on materials, visuals, and real-world applications to support conceptual understanding.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and intervention plans.
Classroom Culture
- Create a structured, positive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and respect.
- Establish strong routines and expectations to support a productive learning environment.
- Promote a growth mindset and encourage students to take risks, persevere, and build confidence in math.
Collaboration
- Work closely with grade-level teams, math specialists, special education staff, and instructional coaches.
- Attend and contribute to PLC meetings, coaching cycles, and professional development sessions.
- Collaborate on curriculum planning, data analysis, and school-wide math initiatives.
Family & School Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress, classroom expectations, and ways to support learning at home.
- Participate in school events, family engagement activities, and community-building initiatives.
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of the school community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; major in Education or Mathematics preferred.
- Experience teaching elementary or middle school math preferred.
- Strong understanding of math content, instructional best practices, and differentiation.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to equity, high expectations, and continuous professional growth.
