Math Tutor

Position Summary

The Hill School seeks a pool of Math Tutors to support students in grades 9–12 across all levels of high school mathematics (Algebra III, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus). Tutors play an important role in supporting student confidence, independence, and academic growth in a structured and encouraging environment. Tutors will provide individualized or small-group academic support aligned with classroom instruction, helping students strengthen content knowledge, build problem-solving skills, and develop effective study habits.

This outreach is intended to create a resource for families who may be seeking additional academic support. Tutors are not employees of The Hill School and are not paid through school payroll. Tutoring arrangements, scheduling, and payment are handled directly between families and tutors, and placement is not guaranteed. Sessions typically take place in the afternoons or on weekends, based on mutual availability. Tutors considered for this pool must be willing to complete required background checks and clearances in order to be connected with families.

Start Date: Flexible, beginning immediately

End Date: Through May 29, 2026 (with potential for continuation)

ScheduleCompensation:

  • Flexible scheduling based on student and tutor availability.
  • Sessions typically occur in one-hour increments (individual or small group).
  • Afternoon and weekend availability required; priority given to candidates with consistent availability during these times.
  • Hourly rate is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
  • Tutors are paid hourly; payment arrangements will be communicated upon placement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide individualized or small-group tutoring in high school mathematics (through calculus).
  • Reinforce classroom instruction and support students with assignments, test preparation, and core skill development.
  • Help students build mathematical confidence.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching, tutoring, or working with adolescents preferred.
  • Strong content knowledge in high school mathematics (through calculus).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Energetic, flexible, and student-centered approach.
  • Commitment to supporting student growth and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Experience developing or adapting instructional materials is a plus, though tutors will often work from existing course materials and teacher guidance.
  • Tutors must be willing meet with students on The Hill School campus or online, according to family preference.
  • Candidates must obtain and maintain required background clearances.
