POSITION PURPOSE:
Leads a small group of teachers who teach the same grade or subject to help improve teaching and student learning. Works directly with students while also supporting and guiding other teachers. Uses different ways to teach, such as whole class lessons, co-teaching, modeling lessons, and working with small groups.
Keeps track of how students are learning by using different types of assessments and reviewing the results. Helps the team plan lessons together and supports teachers through coaching. Meets regularly with the school leader to review student progress, set goals, and solve problems. Takes on different leadership roles to support the school and team.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of subject matter being taught (Mathematics)

Bachelor’s degree

Valid teaching license K-6 Elementary, area 025

Five years of teaching experience

Prior evidence of high-growth student learning in the relevant subjects

Demonstrate “Accomplished” on Standard 1 of the NC Teacher Evaluation Tool

Ideally, experience successfully leading a team of adults to accomplish goals, though not necessarily as formal leader

Demonstrated interpersonal and group effectiveness working with adults and students, including interpersonal understanding and action to maintain relationships needed for success in a school or similar environment.

Leads team meetings to review math data, plan lessons, and meet the needs of all learners.

Sets clear, high goals for student math growth, with a focus on helping all student groups succeed.

Shares effective math strategies, tools, and resources to ensure consistent instruction across classrooms.

Provides clear guidance on math standards, curriculum, and best instructional practices.

Supports targeted math instruction through small groups and tutoring.

Helps the team use research-based math practices and develop strong, standards-aligned assessments.

Creates classroom environments that support problem-solving, mathematical thinking, collaboration, and positive behavior.

Builds strong relationships with students and families while supporting students’ academic and social-emotional growth.

Models effective math instruction and works alongside teachers to plan and teach high-quality lessons.

Uses student data to monitor progress, adjust instruction, and plan small-group support.

Communicates regularly with students and families about math progress and learning goals.

Organizes team schedules and instructional time to make the most of each teacher’s strengths.

Coaches and supports team members, including paraprofessionals or support staff, when applicable.

Participates in ongoing professional learning to strengthen math instruction and leadership skills.

Completes other related duties as needed.
SALARY
Based on North Carolina Teaching Salary Schedule plus salary supplement.
