About Descartes Learning Club

Descartes Learning Club is a boutique provider of high-quality, in-person math enrichment for K–12 students. We believe math should be challenging, creative, and fun—not intimidating!

Through small-group classes, customized curriculum, and passionate instructors, we help students build strong math foundations, think critically, and grow confident in their abilities. What You’ll Do as a Math Instructor / Teacher

* Teach engaging K–12 math classes using our enrichment-focused curriculum

* Lead small, interactive groups that encourage problem-solving and curiosity

* Create a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment

* Review homework, assess progress, and personalize instruction

* Share lesson recaps and homework with parents

* Track and report student progress each semester

* Communicate clearly with families and offer make-up sessions when needed

* Mentor students to think logically, ask great questions, and enjoy math

Who We’re Looking For

* Strong math background (Bachelor’s in math, science, engineering, or related field preferred)

* Talented undergraduates majoring in math or related fields welcome to apply

* Experience teaching or tutoring elementary or middle school students strongly preferred

* Experience with math enrichment programs or competitions is a big plus

* Confident communicator with strong classroom presence

* Passion for helping students grow academically and emotionally

Schedule Snapshot

* Teach 1–2.5 hours per day (most commonly 1.5+ hours) on mutually agreed weekdays

* Classes run between 3–6 PM on weekdays

* Our teachers usually teach 2-10 hours per week, over 1-5 days per week, based on your availability, student needs, and tenure with us

Example schedule:

Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays

3:30–5:00 PM

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

  • What was your GPA and major GPA from your university and graduate studies (if applicable), respectively?

  • Will you now, or in the future, require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H-1B visa status)?
  • We are primarily hiring for (1) the fall (9/1/26-12/18/26), (2) the spring (now-6/12/26) or (3) spring and fall (now-6/12/26 and 9/1/26-12/18/26) , excluding holiday and school breaks). Can you teach at least one full session (missing no more than ~1 week / session)? If so, please specify whether you can teach the full fall session, the full spring session, or both.
  • Are you currently seeking a full-time position that you aim to start within the next 12 months?
  • Our classes are in Pacifica, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Los Altos, Portola Valley, San Mateo, San Francisco, Oakland, and Hayward, and potentially also in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, San Jose, Milpitas, Fremont, Piedmont, Berkeley and Marin, in the 2026-2027 school year, starting in September 2026. You will teach for 1-2.5 hours between about 3:00-6:00pm on weekdays. We may also have classes to offer in the spring. The specific hours will vary depending on the final confirmed courses. Experience:

  • math teaching or tutoring: 1 year (Preferred)

Pay: $60.00 - $75.00 per hour
