Math/STEM Coach, 1:1 and small group- M-Th 8:30-3:30

We are looking for a dynamic and reliable individual to work 1:1 with our 2e students as a Math/STEM Coach and, potentially, in small-group classes. This individual will create and develop a plan with the student's interests and learning styles in mind. Initially, this job will be in-person at our Pleasanton Campus. We want someone who thinks outside the box, is flexible, and has a creative passion for STEM and Mathematics. There is very little red tape on our campus, so the sky is the limit for your instruction and creative practice. Please bring passion for these subject areas. Big Minds is an attachment-based, community-focused school designed to give 2e K-8th-grade students the time and support they need to grow into thoughtful, articulate citizens. We have a four-day school week running from Monday through Thursday. Working hours are 8:30-3:30 MWTH and W 8:30-4, therefore approximately 29-30 hours weekly, which for our organization, is considered full-time. The end of our school year is June 9th, 2026. Faculty are provided two weeks of PTO annually. In addition, our faculty are paid year round and have summer breaks, a week for Thanksgiving, two weeks for the winter holidays, one week for Presidents week, and one week for Spring Break.

This position is also required to work our Summer Camp at our Pleasanton and Pinole Campuses for the first year of employment. Upon renewal of a contract for the 2027-2028 school year, Summer Camp work is optional for an additional stipend. The weeks are June 29-July 30th, M-Th 8:30-3:30. The first three weeks are at our Pleasanton Campus, and the final two are at our Pinole Campus.

This position is paid bi-monthly. A $440 monthly stipend for individual health insurance is offered after a probationary period to employees who work 30 hours or more per week. Vision, Dental, and a basic Life Insurance Policy are also provided at employer cost.

Math/STEM Coach Responsibilities

Create a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives.

Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the school, and the collective/individual interest of its staff and student body. Promote professional learning through self-assessment, reflection on practice, and professional conversations.

Planning and Preparation:

  • Prepare Math lessons and gather the necessary materials before each activity.
  • Work with students one-on-one during the school day to provide math tutoring to diverse gifted learners with various learning challenges.
  • Plan lessons and delivery of the curriculum.
  • Document narratives of each coaching session via the school's chosen digital platform
  • Assess student progress and assist with report cards, including writing brief narratives (4-5 sentences per student) of topics covered, progress made, and areas of growth or concern.
  • Maintain a consistent schedule of coaching sessions with each student weekly
  • Administer subject area (Math) assessments via online platform 2 times yearly for each coaching student

The Classroom Environment:

  • Maintain an environment (indoors and outdoors) that is safe, healthy, attractive, clean, and appropriate for students.
  • Help students develop self-confidence and a positive self-image by providing an environment of acceptance and support for each student.
  • Utilize discipline methods that emphasize empathy, cooperation, and communication.
  • Ensure that all instruction is Neurodivergent Affirming in practice

  Instruction:

  • Under the direction of the Director, provide activities and projects that engage students.
  • Help create opportunities for learning by expanding on students’ self-selected topics and activities.
  • Provide for varied levels of student ability/disability, including multi-level teaching and accommodations, when appropriate.
  • Employ strategies that encourage and promote attachment and community among the students.
  • Exhibit teacher/student interactions that reflect an awareness of the student's emotional, social, and educational needs.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $38,400.00 - $39,600.00 per year
