Sunstates Security is hiring Flex Unarmed Security Officers in the Northern MD area. All days and shifts are available! These positions offer a pay rate of $21/1hr. with weekly pay.

Position Overview

Sunstates Security is seeking professional Flex Security Officers to support a logistics and distribution operation in the Laurel, MD area. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment through access control, gate operations, patrol activities, visitor management, and facility security. Candidates who are adaptable, dependable, and comfortable supporting multiple locations within the region are encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities

Security Officers will be expected to:

• Provide professional security support at logistics and distribution facilities throughout the Laurel, MD region.
• Control access for employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors entering and exiting client facilities.
• Monitor truck traffic, shipping and receiving activity, and delivery operations.
• Conduct vehicle inspections, credential verification, and gatehouse operations in accordance with site procedures.
• Perform routine patrols of warehouse, distribution, parking, and perimeter areas.
• Respond to alarms, incidents, emergencies, and security concerns while following established escalation procedures.
• Complete daily activity reports, incident reports, truck logs, visitor logs, and other required documentation.
• Maintain a visible security presence to promote a safe and secure work environment.
• Follow all client-specific post orders, safety requirements, and Sunstates Security standards.
• Communicate effectively with client management, drivers, employees, emergency responders, and Sunstates leadership.
• Travel between assigned client locations as operational needs require.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Must be able to work in Laurel, MD and travel within a 25-mile radius as operational needs require.
• Active Maryland Security Guard Certification required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Virginia DCJS registration and/or Washington, D.C. security credentials as required.
• Must possess strong customer service and communication skills.
• Must be comfortable working in active warehouse, transportation, and logistics environments.
• Must be able to complete detailed reports and documentation accurately.
• Must be capable of working days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and company-observed holidays as assigned.
• Prior security, military, law enforcement, warehouse, logistics, transportation, dispatch, or customer service experience preferred.
• Reliable transportation required.

Flex Officer Explanation

The Flex Officer position is crucial to our company’s operational and financial success. The flex officer provides trained, competent support by working shifts which become open due to illness, call-offs, weather, vacation, or other causes. This enables Sunstates to provide continual, uninterrupted service to our customers, while also protecting the health and work balance of our personnel.

Scheduling Expectations

The scheduling parameters and expectations for a flex officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a flex:

• You will be trained at various posts and /or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment.
• Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need.
• You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs.
• Some of your shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the new week’s schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice and asked to come in to cover for someone who is unable to work their shift.
• You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance which falls within the availability described on this sheet. If you know you will be unavailable on an upcoming date or time that would normally fall within your availability described on this sheet, you must communicate this with your supervisor, so they know not to schedule you.

For short-notice call-ins, you are expected to work at least 80% of the shifts for which you are called. If you refuse more than 20% of shifts for which you are called in, this could negatively impact your employment status with the company.

A Security Officer may perform a multitude of duties as specified by the Post Orders and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The Security Officer will read and become extremely knowledgeable of Post Orders and SOP and will be able to act quickly and efficiently according to such directives.
