Mechanic- Heavy Equipment

General Purpose:

Maintains and repairs the company’s fleet of vehicles and heavy-duty equipment by performing skilled mechanical and diagnostic work. Supports field operations by utilizing a fully equipped mobile mechanic truck to conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and respond to emergency repairs across active job sites, ensuring minimal equipment downtime and efficient operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 3–5+ years of experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy construction equipment
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and mechanical components
  • Experience with John Deere or similar heavy equipment preferred
  • Welding certification preferred; strong fabrication skills highly desirable
  • Experience working as a mobile/field mechanic and operating independently in fast-paced environments
  • Familiarity with fleet management systems (e.g., Samsara) and digital work order documentation preferred
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues in the field with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL Class A or B preferred
  • Knowledge of DOT and BIT inspection requirements is a plus
  • Ability to pass background, drug/alcohol, and MVR screenings
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Results-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and field conditions
  • Ability to mentor and support junior team members

Essential Functions:

  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on company trucks and heavy equipment in both yard and field environments
  • Operate and maintain a mobile mechanic service truck to support active job sites
  • Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns and perform on-site troubleshooting and repairs
  • Diagnose and repair diesel, electrical, hydraulic, chassis, and mechanical issues
  • Complete and maintain accurate daily work orders using fleet management systems (e.g., Samsara)
  • Repair and maintain a variety of equipment including trucks, excavators, backhoes, lifts, cranes, and trailers
  • Perform welding and fabrication work as needed to support repairs and modifications
  • Conduct 90-day BIT inspections and ensure equipment meets safety and compliance standards
  • Track and account for labor hours, parts, and materials used for each repair
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized mobile truck and work environment
  • Communicate effectively with field personnel and management regarding equipment status and repair needs
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed to support operations
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) and comply with all company policies, including safety and drug-free workplace requirements
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds unassisted
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching
  • Manual dexterity required for handling tools and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate clearly
  • Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods

  • Frequent exposure to outdoor elements.

Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
