Job Summary

Does major repair work such as; removal and/or repair of engines, transmissions, clutches, steering, suspension, brakes (including air brakes), hydraulics and pneumatics. Fabricates, welds with MIG, TIG & Arc and cuts with plasma & oxy. Does routine and preventive maintenance such as inspection, greasing, fluids & filters… Must be able to test drive commercial vehicles and heavy equipment and plow snow or operate heavy equipment at the DPW yard.

Knowledge of automotive repairs and methods used in repair of mechanical equipment; knowledge of vehicle computer and electrical systems and small engines (gas & diesel); ability to use and care for the tools of the trade. Must be willing and able to consistently display pleasant and professional behavior in a challenging environment. Basic computer skills are required (email, search internet, etc.).

Not less than three (3) years of employment as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Completion of an apprenticeship in automotive repair and one (1) year of employment as an automotive or highway equipment mechanic.

An equivalent combination of the above experience and training.

Employees appointed to positions in this class must have adequate physical strength and stamina and are expected to maintain such physical fitness to be able to perform the duties.

Must be able to operate vehicles with standard transmissions and heavy equipment, as needed; must possess and maintain a Commercial Drivers’ License minimum Class B at time of appointment and during employment in this class.

Pay: $27.30 - $33.64 per hour
