Mechanic II

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all vehicles assigned to departments and division of the City. Responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance and necessary repairs, vehicle modifications, maintenance documentation, and parts inventories. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Requires a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in performing routine maintenance and minor repair work on automobile, heavy truck, small engine maintenance and repairs. Must have experience with diagnostics scanning tools or a closely related field. Performs skilled work involving rules/systems but solves problems almost constantly. Performs addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and/or calculates ratios, rates and percents. Ability to use computer for emailing, filling out work orders and service reports, and willingness to learn new software. Reads technical instructions, procedures manuals, and charts to solve practical problems; composes routine and specialized reports and forms; speaks compound sentences using normal grammar and word form. Performs manual and technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure. Requires a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must obtain a valid State of Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire date. Must obtain a minimum of two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in automotive or heavy equipment fields within two (2) years of hire date. Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
