Job Description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Lab Technician is responsible for performing heat treatment of test material and testing of metallic material for product acceptance. Responsibility for achievement of high quality, low cost, safety and on-time performance goals and development of advanced methods and techniques to increase productivity. This is a very fast paced environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks as required by the company.

· Follow shop traveler and internal PO instructions to perform lot specific testing for product acceptance.

· Cut and prepare test material per written instructions.

· Machine test specimens.

· Set up and perform the following testing:

o Tensile testing

o Rockwell Hardness

o Brinell Hardness

o Electrical Conductivity

  • Maintain material traceability throughout processing.
  • Proper material handling and storage.
  • Comply with all applicable work instructions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with computers.
  • Ability to enter handwritten data to a computer.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to complete simple production reports.
  • Ability to operate a bandsaw and manual mill.
  • Ability to use tape measure, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and fractions.
  • Accurately measure using 1/8 and 1/16.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in an aerospace environment.
  • Familiarity working in an aerospace quality system.
  • Experience in an inspection role.
  • High School Diploma.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Quality or testing for an aerospace company.
  • Ability to read aerospace specifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing normal duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception to read instruments, operate material handling equipment and identify colors. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in this work environment requires hearing protection.
