About AV Industries
AV Industries is a growth-focused manufacturing company delivering high-quality engineered products for diverse sectors. We combine smart design, robust manufacturing, and strict quality systems to bring reliable products to market.
Role Summary
We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to own end-to-end product/part design—from concept and 3D modeling to drawings, prototyping, validation, and release to manufacturing. You’ll collaborate with production, quality, supply chain, and customers to deliver cost-effective, manufacturable designs on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Create 3D models and fully-defined 2D drawings (dimensions, GD&T, tolerances, surface finish, notes).
- Perform tolerance stack-ups; ensure fit, form, function, and manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
- Select materials/finishes; define specs for sheet metal, machining, casting, welding, and injection-molded parts.
- Build and maintain BOMs, part numbers, revisions; manage ECR/ECN through PDM/PLM.
- Run basic FEA/CAE checks (stiffness, stress, thermal) and coordinate advanced analysis/testing with the team.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments (DFMEA), and value engineering/cost-down initiatives.
- Support prototype build, supplier discussions, and manufacturing line bring-up; resolve build issues via RCCA/CAPA.
- Ensure compliance to ASME Y14.5, company standards, and relevant safety/regulatory norms (e.g., CE, RoHS where applicable).
- Generate technical documentation: assembly instructions, test plans (DVP&R), and release packages.
- Coordinate with quality for PPAP/FAI/inspection plans; respond to customer/field feedback and drive design updates.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 2+ years hands-on experience in mechanical design/product development in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in at least one major CAD tool: SolidWorks/CATIA/NX/Creo/Inventor; working knowledge of AutoCAD for layouts.
- Strong command of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance stack-ups, and 2D detailing best practices.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes (sheet metal, machining, casting, welding, injection molding) and DFM/DFA.
- Experience with PDM/PLM (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill, SolidWorks PDM) for revision control and release.
- Basics of FEA/CAE (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) for preliminary checks.
- Familiarity with materials & heat treatment, corrosion protection, and surface finishes.
- Exposure to APQP/PPAP, ECR/ECN, BOM management, and documentation discipline.
- Strong problem-solving, ownership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Good to Have (Preferred)
- Experience with DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, and test fixture design.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, value engineering, and cost modeling.
- Hands-on with GD&T-based inspection, CMM reports, and metrology tools.
- Supplier/Vendor interaction for manufacturability and cost negotiations.
- Scripting/automation in CAD or data tools (Excel/Power Query, Python) for productivity.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary (commensurate with experience).
- Statutory benefits including Provident Fund, paid leaves, national holidays, and performance-based incentives.
- Learning & growth opportunities with real ownership of projects.
