As a Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing automated and manual fixtures for Body-In-White applications (Resistance Welding) and Frame Line (MIG Welding) systems. Using 3D solid modeling, you will develop fully constrained mechanical fixtures and create complete CAD packages that meet customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design clamps, stationary and retractable pin units, slides, and dumps
  • Assist in designing compound units
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing Principles in design processes
  • Ensure MIG weld torch angle and clearance requirements are met
  • Produce accurate 2D drawing packages for manufacturing
  • Generate detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Prepare CAD files with proper attributes for ERP system release
  • Utilize file check and design assist programs effectively
  • Apply correct tolerances and select appropriate materials
  • Interpret and use GD&T drawings
  • Create component buyoff sheets and RWDs (Requests for Wiring Diagrams)
  • Perform basic engineering calculations to validate design integrity
  • Complete additional duties within capabilities, as assigned

Qualifications:

Experience: 1-3+ years of relevant work experience in an automation environment

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred, HS diploma / GED required

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of mechanical design and plant layout validation
  • Knowledge of safety and ergonomic standards in mechanical design
  • Prior experience with Body-In-White welding fixtures (preferred)
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (NX, Unigraphics, CATIA, Inventor, or AutoCAD)
  • Effective skills with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities

Work Environment: This position operates in both an office and a manufacturing site environment and may be required to work at multiple facilities depending on workload.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and twist. Occasionally required to lift/push/pull up to 25lbs.

Expected Hours of Work: This position requires regular full-time work, including extended hours as required to meet the needs of the business.

Direct Reports: This position does not have direct reports.

Travel: Occasional travel to support installations at Paslin or customer locations
