Mechanical Designer

Locations: Remote, Lenexa, KS, Houston, TX, Oak Ridge, TN

Position overview

Mechanical designers apply drafting principles to perform basic engineering drafting work, developing drawings and models under close guidance from engineers and designers. They coordinate with other design‑group members to exchange project information and perform specific design functions. Designers use established quality standards and procedures when performing tasks.

District overview

The engineering group is a full‑service consulting and engineering firm with over 1,300 engineers and design professionals; it serves transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building and oil/gas The Power district includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines and focuses on EPC delivery of power facilities Designers work on projects across North America with an emphasis on safe, cost‑effective and innovative designs

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D models from drawings, sketches and design skills
  • Create and maintain plan, diagram and detail drawings
  • Navigate and check 3D models for interferences and constructability
  • Resolve comments on checked drawings and implement feedback
  • Produce “as‑built” records by incorporating RFIs, ECNs and red‑line drawings to create “Conformed to Construction Records”
  • Gather necessary information to develop drawings and create check package
  • Learn and apply design standards and applicable codes and standard
  • Perform detailed assignments carefully and efficiently, handle multiple tasks and meet schedule deadlines
  • Report work progress to the lead designer and inform management of project decisions differing from standard
  • Conduct personal quality checks to ensure consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements prior to checking
  • Participate in meetings as required and proactively learn

Qualifications

  • Ability to receive limited instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments
  • Effective oral and written communication and participation in team environments
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines and maintain professional relationshipskiewitcareers
  • Entry‑ to intermediate‑level AutoCAD skillskiewitcareers
  • Proficiency with CAD software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, NavisWorks, SmartPlant) and basic office software; ability to communicate electronically
  • Associate/bachelor’s degree in Computer‑Aided Drafting and Design or related field, or high‑school diploma with relevant

Pay: From $75,000.00 per year
