Mechanical Designer

Position Overview

Vali Cooper International is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support a growing portfolio of projects for the U.S. Department of Energy Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).

This position requires a highly experienced designer capable of independently developing detailed mechanical and piping design packages for complex industrial facilities. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-discipline federal design environment and capable of producing high-quality deliverables with minimal supervision.

Projects are delivered under DOE Level III design criteria within a Design-Bid-Build framework.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently develop detailed mechanical and piping design drawings from engineering direction and calculations.
  • Produce complete construction drawing packages including:
  • Piping plans and isometrics
  • Equipment layouts
  • Pipe rack and support layouts
  • Mechanical equipment installation details
  • Fire protection layouts (as applicable)
  • Develop and maintain 3D models using AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit.
  • Coordinate models across disciplines and support clash detection efforts.
  • Incorporate redlines and review comments efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain drawing standards, model integrity, and file organization.
  • Support field verification, as-built documentation, and construction-phase updates as required.
  • Assist in maintaining internal QA/QC compliance procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of mechanical/piping design experience in industrial or process facilities
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Demonstrated experience independently producing industrial piping packages
  • Strong understanding of P&IDs, Piping specifications, Equipment layout and clearances
  • Familiarity with ASME and NFPA standards
  • Experience supporting federal or industrial clients preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required site access/security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting petroleum storage terminals, tank farms, or energy infrastructure
  • Experience modeling fire protection systems
  • Construction support experience (as-builts, field markups, site coordination)
  • Experience working in a Design-Bid-Build federal environment

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
