Summary of Position:

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for preparing detailed drawings and mechanical layouts based on project specifications and data. This role involves using CAD software, such as AutoCAD, to design and review mechanical components, layouts, and systems. The Mechanical Designer may also travel to job sites to take measurements and observe production lines, ensuring design accuracy and alignment with project requirements. This role demands a solid understanding of mechanical parts, building systems, and proficiency in CAD tools to support engineering and project teams effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Design and Drafting: Creates templates, blocks, sheet sets, and design packages independently, providing comprehensive support for mechanical design projects. Prepares mechanical plans under the guidance of engineers for specific project requirements.
  • Site Visits and Measurements: Visits job sites or facilities as needed to measure machinery dimensions and observe production lines, ensuring accurate design specifications.
  • Project Planning and Estimation: Estimates quantities and performs basic calculations to support project design and planning, contributing to the accuracy of project specifications and budgets.
  • Research and Information Gathering: Assists in research studies and information gathering to support specific mechanical design projects. Ensures all relevant information is included in design documentation.
  • Documentation and File Organization: Maintains organized files and records related to mechanical designs, plans, and project progress to provide easy access for the Project Manager and team members as required.
  • 3D Design and Modeling Proficiency: Maintains and develops skills in 3D design and modeling, using advanced CAD software, including Autodesk AutoCAD and other industry-standard tools to produce high-quality designs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Building Codes and Regulations
  • Proficiency in Mechanical Drawing, Plumbing, and HVAC Design
  • Ability to read and interpret Blueprints/Diagrams and Schematic Capture
  • Strong skills in Layout Design, Building Systems, and BIM Software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • General Office Activities: The role requires standard office activities, including extended periods of sitting, standing, and using computer workstations.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, such as computers, printers, and telephones.
  • Visual Acuity: Consistent visual attention to detail for reviewing technical drawings, reports, and computer screens.
  • Communication: Regular communication with team members and clients via phone, email, and in-person meetings, requiring clear speech and auditory comprehension.
  • Mobility: Occasional need to move about the office and visit different departments or offsite locations, which may involve walking, climbing stairs, or using elevators.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office Setting: The work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
  • Team Collaboration: Frequent interaction with team members, clients, and stakeholders in a collaborative workspace.
  • Meetings and Presentations: Regular participation in meetings and presentations, both in-person and virtually.
  • Site Visits: Occasional visits to project sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and physical terrains.
  • Travel: Occasional travel is required to attend client meetings, site visits, conferences, or training sessions.
  • Travel may involve extended periods away from the office and vary in frequency.
  • Equipment Use: Daily use of office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, and telephones.
  • Work Hours: Standard office hours with a flexible schedule to accommodate project deadlines and work/life balance.

Salary Commensurate with Experience

Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
