Job Overview

The Mechanical Draughtsman is responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings for water and wastewater treatment systems. This includes P&IDs, equipment layouts, piping layouts, and fabrication drawings for skid-mounted and containerized plants. The role involves close coordination with engineering, production, and design teams to ensure drawing accuracy and alignment with project requirements. The draughtsman also supports documentation, BOQ preparation, and as-built drawings, adhering to industry standards and internal quality systems. Proficiency in AutoCAD and a solid understanding of water treatment processes are essential.

Responsibilities

Drawing & Design Development

  • Prepare Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in coordination with the engineering team.
  • Develop General Assembly (GA) and Equipment Layout Drawings for water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Create detailed fabrication drawings for skids and equipment, including structural and mechanical components.
  • Design piping layouts for skid-mounted and containerized treatment plants in both 2D and 3D formats.
  • Generate as-built drawings for piping installations following project completion.
  • Produce isometric piping drawings as required by project or engineering instructions.
  • Prepare detailed machine/component drawings for custom plant equipment.
  • Generate PVC and Stainless Steel (SS) Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for various plant assemblies.

Electrical & Control Panel Drawings

  • Prepare wiring diagrams and electrical schematics for control panels and associated systems.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Liaise with the Sales, Process Design, and Production departments to resolve design or production-related issues.
  • Participate in cross-functional coordination to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.

Documentation & Quality Control

  • Implement and maintain document control procedures to manage the revision and distribution of drawings.
  • Ensure all drawings and documentation conform to the Integrated Management System (IMS) and relevant industry standards.
  • Maintain proper archiving and traceability of drawing versions, revisions, and approvals.

General Duties

  • Complete all assigned documentation and tasks in compliance with company policies, procedures, and IMS protocols.
  • Perform any other related duties as may be assigned or agreed upon by the Engineering Manager from time to time.

Requirements

  • Diploma / Technical Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering from a reputed technical education board.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in mechanical drafting, with strong proficiency in AutoCAD within the Water Treatment or Wastewater Treatment industry.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and other design software relevant to mechanical and piping layouts.
  • Experience in creating P&IDs, GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to generate accurate BOQs, isometric drawings, and as-built documentation.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) for reporting and documentation.
  • Familiarity with document control procedures and Integrated Management Systems (IMS) is a plus.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawing and documentation.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Good problem-solving abilities, especially in resolving design and production-related issues.
