_ Summary Statement _

Under direction, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, testing, and analyzing devices, test stations, systems, and equipment in support of the TESCO product lines. This role will perform engineering work in basic and applied research, development, design of new products, and improvements to existing products. The Mechanical Engineer will also work closely with other engineering staff to understand equipment / system requirements and ensure products are tested / validated against requirements. This role will also work closely with engineering, marketing, and operational teams to release updates to existing and new to market products for customers.

_ Core Functions/Duties _

  • Work with all departments in the organization and be an integral part of project teams.
  • Ensure consistent and timely execution of assigned testing and design tasks.
  • Design and develop mechanical systems and enclosures for metering and EVSE test equipment.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or similar tools.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, FEA/ DFMEA, and thermal simulations as needed.
  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate mechanical designs to complete systems.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and validation.
  • Work with operations and manufacturing teams to ensure DFM / DFA best practices.
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Read and interpret schematics, drawings, mechanical assembly documents and models, and technical specifications.
  • Analyze complex systems, devices, and systems to quickly identify and rectify problems.
  • Create and modify existing mechanical documentation (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, INFOR ERP).
  • Conceptualize, design, document, build, and test any assigned test fixture, device, or system as assigned.
  • Ensure designs are cost-effective and can be efficiently manufactured.
  • Communicate with customers in support of design and development of assigned TESCO equipment.
  • Provide written and oral presentations on trip reports, troubleshooting cases, and technical subjects.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions on improvements to assembly or test procedures and equipment.
  • Prepare mechanical drawing packages to RFQ with internal and external vendors and collaborate with procurement team to purchase and inspect parts.
  • Assemble prototypes on the production floor and supervise production staff as necessary for new products or changes to existing products or general manufacturing support.
  • Document assembly process via detailed Work Instructions.

_ Supervisory Responsibilities _

● N/A – Direct and indirect work with others in engineering, operations, and finance.

● Informal direction for manufacturing support and processes.

Degree/Certification or Training

Required -

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering

Preferred-

Master of Science (M.S) Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or related

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Varied focus as related to Business Operations, Finance, Management, etc.

Required Experience

● Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design.

● Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical product and system design.

● Minimum 3 years of experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design software.

● Experience working in an environment with industry regulations and compliance standards.

● Familiarity with electromechanical systems and PCB integration.

● Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.

● Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

● Basic manufacturing and electrical / mechanical knowledge.

● Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Experience

● Experience with SolidWorks PDM and CADLink.

● Experience with CorelDRAW graphics suite.

● Knowledge of 5S, Six Sigma, TPS or other Lean manufacturing methodologies.

● Experience with INFOR ERP systems.

● Experience in hardware / software product lifecycles.

● Experience in electric metering and knowledge of ANSI C12.

● Experience with EVSE and DER applications.

● Experience with utilities, electrical contractors, electrical manufacturers, or related fields.

● Experience working with NPD - New Product Development and working closely with cross-functional teams.

● Experience working with NRTLs, test labs, and third-party testing services.

● Knowledge of industry regulations and standards (e.g., ISO ANSI UL ETL CSA Etc.)

● Knowledge of ISO 9001 and product lifecycle management.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Physical requirements may include the possibility of standing on feet for extended periods of time, requiring stair climbing and lifting up to 25 pounds. Must have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time with or without accommodation.
