Job Description

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will take full technical ownership of mechanical building services across a complex, high-security government site. The role involves managing a diverse range of systems, including aged and legacy infrastructure, critical plant, and compliance-driven assets.

The environment requires a mechanically biased engineer with strong fault-finding ability and practical experience maintaining and improving older plant while ensuring system reliability. Ex-military engineers are highly desirable due to transferable engineering and operational experience: Royal Navy | British Army | Royal Marines

Responsibilities

  • Take technical leadership of all mechanical systems and projects across the estate
  • Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on critical mechanical plant
  • Diagnose faults and carry out hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical systems
  • Manage, maintain, and improve the performance of legacy and ageing plant
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, safety standards, and contractual obligations
  • Oversee contractors and specialist service providers for both maintenance and project work
  • Prepare technical specifications, reports, and quotations for remedial works and upgrades
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety, documentation, and engineering reporting

Essential Qualifications/Skills

  • Strong mechanical engineering background within building services / facilities management
  • Experience working with older or legacy plant and infrastructure
  • Proven experience in critical environments (defence, healthcare, data centres, or similar)
  • Hands-on knowledge of HVAC systems, water hygiene compliance, pumps, valves, and pipework
  • Solid understanding of statutory compliance and safe systems of work

Security Requirements:

Candidates must be sole UK nationals eligible for DV clearance; they may start after SC clearance but will be shadowed on-site for approximately six months until DV clearance is granted.

In return for your hard work we offer additional training and development, 26 days holiday (+ bank holidays), generous pension contribution, life assurance and much more.
