Description Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and experienced problem solver to take the lead on engineering new products, as well as leading the continuous improvement of our existing product lines. You will use your technical expertise and experience to design, develop, prototype, and test new ideas in both R&D and the real world. This individual should have a familiarity with a wide range of materials and processing used in the manufacturing of material handling equipment which may include but are not limited to steel wire and sheet metal fabrication, roto-molding and thermoforming, textiles, and simple assembly. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for creating solid models and detail drawings designs of sub-components and complete assemblies in SolidWorks 2020 from data and specifications submitted by our customers and our Sales staff. A plastics background is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Translate customer needs into functional product designs while working with cross-functional teams
• Improve existing product or component designs to leverage cost reduction or improve product performance
• Develop multiple solutions and working prototypes to be used in functional evaluation.
• Produces and modifies 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks
• Maintains Solidworks PDM system
• Provides Engineering support to the manufacturing floor
• Processes ECNs, with marked up drawings and bills of Material as needed
• Create and manage project timelines and updates for project teams and Management
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required & Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of metal fabrication, basic knowledge of plastics and plastic processing, knowledge in textile processing a plus.
• Advanced knowledge / experience in SolidWorks
• Knowledge in plastics a plus
• Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office applications
• Ability to suggest new processes or materials that will improve Royal’s products
• Ability to interface with customers or end users to better understand customer needs
• Strong desire and ability to push Royal’s creative design process to a higher level
• Intermediate to advanced math skills
• Requires outstanding follow-up, project management, and interpersonal skills

Education:

• Minimum of a High School education or GED, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Design Technology, or related field is preferred
• Certifications in SolidWorks are beneficial

Experience Requirements

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Design or related field, or equivalent education and experience.

This is not a Master’s or PHD level position.
