Role Summary
The candidate will be responsible for transforming conceptual designs into detailed engineering drawings, hydraulic calculations, and shop drawings for Fire Fighting (Water-based, Gas-based) and Fire Alarm systems. This role bridges the gap between theoretical engineering and on-site installation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fire Fighting System Design (Mechanical)
- Develop detailed layouts for Sprinkler Systems, Standpipes, and Fire Hydrants.
- Design specialized suppression systems (FM-200, CO2, Foam, and Pre-action systems).
- Perform Hydraulic Calculations using software like Elite Fire or SprinkCAD to determine pipe sizing and pump head requirements.
- Drafting Pump Room details, including suction/delivery manifolds and tank connections.
2. Fire Alarm (FA) & Life Safety Design (Electrical/Logic)
- Prepare layouts for smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, and notification appliances (strobes/horns).
- Design Cause and Effect Matrices and riser diagrams for FA systems.
- Ensure integration between FA systems and mechanical equipment (e.g., elevator homing, damper trippings, and AHU shutdowns).
3. Compliance & Coordination
- Ensure all drawings comply with NFPA standards (NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72, etc.) and local Civil Defense codes.
- Coordinate with Architectural, Structural, and HVAC drawings to ensure "Clash-Free" routing (utilizing BIM/Navisworks).
- Prepare "As-Built" drawings post-installation for project close-out and Civil Defense inspections.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Required).
- Software Proficiency: * Expert level in AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
- Proficiency in Revit (BIM) is highly preferred for modern MEP coordination.
- Experience with Hydraulic Calculation software (Elite, HYENA).
- Experience: Typically 3–5 years in the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) sector specifically focusing on Fire Protection.
- Knowledge: Strong grasp of pipe fitting, valve scheduling, and electrical loop wiring logic.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy: Minimal revisions required after consultant or Civil Defense review.
- Speed: Meeting project deadlines for submittals.
- Material Efficiency: Optimizing pipe routing to reduce material waste without compromising code compliance.
