Acutronic is looking for a Mechanical Engineer III to join our team in Austin, TX. The Mechanical Engineer III is a key, customer facing role within the Acutronic Turbines Business Unit. The engineer in this role will have broad responsibility and ownership over customer-driven projects and New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts from proposal through qualification testing and production support.


Mechanical Engineer III

Your Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and test micro-turbine and turbo-generator systems. Perform mechanical design and analysis of static and rotating hardware, utilizing metallic or composite materials, across both cold and hot sections of the engine
  • Utilize Siemens Teamcenter and NX for modelling and drafting, adhering to the latest dimensional and tolerancing standards (ASME Y14.5)
  • Set up, execute, and review advanced analyses using tools like ANSYS, focusing on elastic or elastic-plastic behavior, blade and vane dynamics, rotor-dynamics, and thermals
  • Iterate design concepts with a keen eye on driving cost reduction and enhancing value in the design
  • Engage in customer-funded or internal projects, assisting in the drafting of proposals for customer projects.
  • Take on project management responsibilities for designing and producing engine systems
  • Holistically manage component level and subsystem level hardware from digital (PLM) to physical (hardware test and verification).
  • Collaborate with other team members and subject matter experts to succeed in achieving program milestones.
  • Assist management in the prioritization of tasks and allocating resources; balancing project obligations, delivery milestones, and budget requirements while adhering to quality and functional specifications
  • Provide expert advice to senior management on problem-solving and solution strategies
  • Mechanical assembly of microturbine hardware
  • Test data acquisition and post processing to validate designs
  • Support and operate within an AS9100 quality environment following standard protocols

Your Profile/Qualifications/Skills:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, and or equivalent Engineering from an accredited college or university, required
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, preferred
  • At least 7 years of experience in turbomachinery related field required
  • Expert knowledge in engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to develop methodologies for the design space exploration of aero-engine component
  • Programming skills in MATLAB, Fortran, C, or Python is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to also work independently
  • Strong time management skills; self-starter
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing methods (such as machining, casting, welding, etc.)
  • Ability to lead projects independently and own whole systems and engine assemblies
