About this Position:
Green Powered Technology (GPTech) is preparing a response to a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) opportunity focused on improving the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and delivery of healthcare facility design and construction nationwide. The Mechanical Engineer will support review and oversight of HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, and building systems, ensuring performance, compliance, and constructability in healthcare environments.

GPTech is seeking a highly qualified Mechanical Engineer to support this proposal and potential follow-on work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical advisory support on HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems to PM/CM and VA stakeholders
  • Review mechanical system designs (HVAC, plumbing, medical gas) for compliance, performance, and constructability
  • Evaluate systems for redundancy, resiliency, and maintainability, particularly in healthcare environments
  • Identify and document design deficiencies, coordination issues, and operational risks
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and contractor proposals, providing technical recommendations
  • Support commissioning, testing, and system validation, including review of results
  • Assess phasing and sequencing impacts, particularly in occupied healthcare environments
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve MEP integration issues
  • Support field observations and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, as needed
  • Provide on-demand subject matter expertise (“reach-back support”) for complex system issues

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 12+ years (senior-level) of experience in HVAC/plumbing/mechanical systems
  • Experience with design review and/or construction-phase support
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • HVAC systems and controls
    • Plumbing and piping systems
    • Medical gas systems (preferred for healthcare)
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • ASHRAE, NFPA, and healthcare facility standards
  • Experience reviewing submittals, RFIs, and system installations

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with healthcare facility systems and infection control requirements
  • Experience supporting commissioning and system startup
  • Familiarity with VA, DoD, or USACE standards and design guides
  • Experience with central utility plants, redundancy, and resiliency planning
  • Experience in construction oversight, QA/QC, or owner’s representative roles
  • Experience supporting claims analysis or dispute resolution
  • Prior experience providing remote SME (“reach-back”) support
  • Active or prior U.S. security clearance
  • International project experience (e.g., USAID, MDBs)
