About this Role:
Consertus is seeking a Mechanical Inspector to support Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) as part of LAWA’s Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program. This position performs construction inspection services to verify mechanical and plumbing installations comply with contract documents, applicable codes, permits, and LAWA standards. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM. Location: Los Angeles, CA (LAWA).

- Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training completed within the last 4 years (required)
- Ability to obtain a LAWA SIDA badge prior to the official start date (required)

Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect construction activities for airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, and agreements for work.
- Conduct daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems on building and terminal construction projects to verify compliance with applicable codes and project requirements.
- Review and interpret construction documents including plans, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting the who, what, when, where, and how of observed work, including deficiencies and safety concerns.
- Verify contractor compliance with local and national mechanical/plumbing codes and LAWA-specific standards .
- Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and quantities.
- Assist with validation of contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
- Support special inspections and testing activities and coordinate with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
- Perform inspections of systems including (but not limited to):
- Domestic water and sewage systems
- Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping
- HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork)
- Smoke control systems
- Mechanical ventilation and exhaust
- Fire/life safety integration (e.g., smoke dampers)
- Mechanical/plumbing shutdowns and lockout/tagout procedures
- Commissioning and balancing reports
- Underground utilities
- Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
- 3+ years performing mechanical inspections for building construction.
- Thorough knowledge of materials and methods used in installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Proficiency with inspection and document control systems/tools such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) , PM Web , Adobe Pro , Bluebeam , and related platforms.
Certifications/Training (Required)
- Current ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification.
- Cal-OSHA 30-hour training within the last 4 years.
- Fall protection and harness training.
Education
- High school diploma (or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification.
- NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years.
- Journeyman/master plumbing experience with progression into inspection.
- Confined Space Entry training.
- Experience inspecting mechanical systems for large-scale commercial, industrial, or public buildings.
- Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders (contractors, engineers, and city officials/AHJs).
- Strong understanding of diverse code requirements ( CBC & CMC ).
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Openness to learning prescriptive agency-required items.
Working Hours & Location: Full-time, exempt role with standard business hours.

Compensation Range: $114,400 - $127,920 annually; Eligible for Bonus.
