The Team Lead for our Manufacturing Oil & Gas Fabrication department will lead the team and also actively work on fabricating (assembling) the products. The Team Lead is responsible for coordination and assembly of various SMI products according to procedures and drawings.

Requirements:

The following duties are not all inclusive but describe the main duties for the ideal Team Lead:

  • Lead and motivate the team to be productive with good quality work, while working alongside them.
  • Report and redline drawings to Engineering and notify Production Supervisor.
  • Review drawings and the BOM and have the material kits, drawings and tools at the work center/job prior to assembly start.
  • Report BOM errors and shortages or errors in materials to Supervision/Logistics Lead.
  • Be an internally certified trainer and train new fabricators as needed in the department, overhead crane and manlifts procedures.
  • Be internally certified to operate SMI forklifts.
  • Train, coach and evaluate team members continually to ensure they understand and optimize best practices, proficiencies, quality and safety and report results to Supervision.
  • Instruct and direct team members to perform assignments and duties.
  • Verify all required records and production documentation to be completed accurately and neatly, including accurate time keeping within the department.
  • Ensure product is constructed in accordance with design, budget hours, material cost and schedule attainment.
  • Interface with the Quality and Management teams to ensure all company, client's procedures and scope of work is adhered to.
  • Maintain and enforce a clean and safe working area and support a philosophy of zero accidents by following and enforcing all applicable safety procedures and maintaining equipment to operate the safest way possible.
  • Maintain all areas according to the 5S/6S Principles.
  • Assemble and/or test equipment according to procedures & drawing specifications by reading drawings and following P&IDs, schematic, diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Install various components as required, including flanges, tubing, gauges, conduit, flow meters, valves, filters, pumps, regulators, etc. as required.
  • Use a variety of mechanical skills on equipment to ensure unit is assembled to and meets specifications or to determine condition / serviceability of the unit.
  • Use various hand tools, operate circular and band saws, drill press, pipe threading machines, tube bender, grinders, wrenches including manual and hydraulic powered torque wrenches, and other equipment and tooling as required.
  • Use overhead cranes and other heavy equipment to lift, move, and place parts and components.
  • Be able to use calipers, gauges, micrometers & other measuring tools and work within specified tolerances.
  • Perform various fit up and welding processes a needed.
  • Climb and work from ladders (including up to 12'), platforms, and other lifts or height assist equipment to perform duties including placing, holding, and torquing, balancing, and otherwise installing components on top of, besides, beneath, and inside units.
  • Perform required testing per work instructions to verify that assembled components meet Oil & Gas Pressure Control quality guidelines.
  • Prepare units for shipment per established work instructions and checklists.
  • Keep SMI equipment in well working condition including the performance of scheduled maintenance.
  • Keep all working areas safe and free of debris and oil. Clean up working areas after assembly / task is finished. Comply with all safety requirements.

Required knowledge, education & skills:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Manufacturing and Fabrication experience
  • Ability to continually lead, motivate, direct, instruct, and guide others are required.
  • Ability to ensure and enforce personnel and team quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to be honesty and keep confidentiality

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing / fabrication environment. Work may require evening and weekend work.
  • Ability to stand, sit and/or walk on hard surfaces as well as safety bend, stoop, reach, climb steps, and use ladder.
  • Ability to reach overhead; have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Repeat various motions with the wrist, hands, and fingers.
  • Ability to work in an uncontrolled environment (heat, cold, and humidity)
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds following safety procedures.
  • Ability to push/pull 100 pounds following safety procedures.
  • Vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
