Mechanical & Piping Design Engineer

Role Overview:

The Mechanical & Piping Design Engineer will support the development and execution of strategic capital projects across greenfield developments, fuels and energy initiatives, and upgrades or modifications to existing assets. The role spans the full project lifecycle, from concept development and engineering through construction support, mechanical completion, and commissioning, with a primary focus on project development up to Final Investment Decision (FID).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical and piping engineering support for capital projects, including asset modifications, replacements, expansions, and new business initiatives.
  • Develop and review mechanical and piping inputs during concept and FEED stages, including layouts, equipment selection, and design philosophies.
  • Prepare and review mechanical and piping specifications, equipment datasheets, material requisitions, and technical BOQs.
  • Support pre-feasibility, feasibility, FEED, and pre-bid engineering, including review of third-party detailed engineering deliverables.
  • Evaluate OEM and vendor proposals, perform technical bid evaluations, and support technology benchmarking and lifecycle cost analysis.
  • Support project controls and contract-related activities, including input to planning, scheduling, and technical contract documentation.
  • Act as a key technical interface with licensors, vendors, EPC/EPCM contractors, and engineering consultants.
  • Ensure technical integrity, compliance with applicable codes, standards, HSE requirements, and internal project governance.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, mechanical completion, commissioning, and start-up, as required.
  • Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary teams including process, electrical, instrumentation, civil, HSE, and operations.


Education, Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in petrochemical, refinery, or oil & gas.
  • Middle East project experience with EPC contractors or operating companies is an advantage.
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP), Cost Engineering, or similar professional credentials is an added advantage.


Technical & Professional Competencies:

  • Strong foundation in conceptual engineering, FEED, and engineering review for mechanical and piping disciplines.
  • Experience across construction support, mechanical completion, and commissioning phases.
  • Proficiency in mechanical and piping design and analysis tools, such as CAD Worx, CAESAR II, and tank design software.
  • Familiarity with project planning and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Competence in cost estimation, technical evaluations, and review of contractor and consultant deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, coordination, and interdisciplinary interface skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently or within cross-functional teams
  • Availability for domestic and international travel, as required.
