A mechanical site engineer in a hydromechanical role oversees the installation, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems for hydro and pumped storage projects. Their responsibilities include managing on-site construction, supervising technicians, conducting quality control, verifying installations, and performing commissioning and testing of equipment like turbines, pumps, and hydraulic power units. Key responsibilities

  • Site supervision: Oversee mechanical technicians and other workers during the assembly and installation of hydropower components.
  • Quality assurance: Develop and implement quality control procedures and execute test plans to ensure components meet specifications.
  • Installation and testing: Supervise installation, conduct site-specific tests like hydro testing, and perform final commissioning and snag clearance.
  • Equipment management: Plan and supervise the installation and testing of hydromechanical equipment like turbines, pumps, and hydraulic power units.
  • Documentation and reporting: Prepare reports, verify installations against design documents, and ensure all work aligns with project specifications and standards.
  • Safety and logistics: Assist with site logistics, such as designing lifting plans for cranes and coordinating component delivery.
  • Problem-solving: Address any issues that arise during construction or commissioning, ensuring the systems function as designed.

Qualifications and experience

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is typically required.
  • Experience: Experience with hydropower Minimum 4 to 5 Years.
  • Technical knowledge: Must have a strong understanding of fluid-structure interaction, rotating machinery, and performance curves.
  • Standards and testing: Familiarity with relevant international standards (e.g., IEC, ASME, ISO) and experience with performance and commissioning tests is essential.
  • Soft skills: Strong coordination and communication skills are necessary to work with multidisciplinary teams.
