Mechanic/Farm Hand

Title: Equipment Mechanic / Farm Hand (Sod Farm)

Summary: Local sod farm seeking a skilled equipment mechanic who also performs farm-hand duties. Primary focus on fleet and heavy-equipment maintenance (tractors, semis, harvesters, hydraulics, diesel systems) with regular support for field operations, sod loading, and general turf care.

Core Responsibilities — Mechanics (70%):

• Diagnose and repair diesel/gas engines, transmissions, clutches, axles, brakes, suspensions, and drivetrains
• Service and repair hydraulics, PTO systems, pumps, hoses, and cylinders
• Maintain and repair semi tractors and trailers (air brakes, landing gear, fifth wheel, DOT pre-trip inspections)
• Troubleshoot electrical systems (starters, alternators, wiring, lights, basic ECU faults); use multimeter and scan tools
• Perform preventive maintenance: oil changes, filters, greasing, belt/hose replacement, coolant and fuel system service
• Maintain parts inventory, accurate maintenance logs, and repair tickets
• On-call/roadside repair support for field breakdowns

Core Responsibilities — Farm Hand (30%):

• Load, stack, and secure sod on trailers; assist with semi trailer loading
• Operate tractors, mowers and skid steers
• Perform irrigation checks, minor repairs, and set/adjust sprinklers
• Assist with planting, mowing, fertilization, and basic turf care tasks during peak season
• Physically move pallets and rolls of sod (regular lifting 50+ lbs), work outdoors in varied weather

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years diesel/heavy-equipment mechanic experience; fleet or agricultural equipment experience preferred
• Experience with semis/trailers and air brake systems;
• CDL A preferred but not required
• Proficient with hydraulics, diesel fuel systems, and basic diagnostics; comfortable reading schematics
• Welding/fabrication experience (MIG/TIG) and basic machining helpful
• Valid driver’s license, dependable, able to pass background check and drug screen
• Physical stamina, mechanical problem-solving, good communication, and teamwork

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
