Medication Technician (Med Tech) / Certified Medication Aide (if applicable)

The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for assisting with the safe administration of medications to residents in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, training requirements, and community policies. The Med Tech supports resident health and wellness while also providing resident care services, observing changes in condition, and reporting concerns to licensed nursing staff or management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administer and/or assist residents with medications as authorized by state regulations and community policy.
Complete daily medication pass accurately, timely, and respectfully.
Follow the “Five Rights” of medication administration (right resident, medication, dose, time, route).
Document medication administration in the MAR/eMAR system immediately after completion.
Observe residents for side effects, refusals, adverse reactions, or medication concerns and report promptly.
Reorder medications and coordinate refill needs with pharmacy as directed.
Maintain medication cart cleanliness, organization, and security.
Report medication errors, omissions, or discrepancies immediately.
Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, consistent with training and assignment.
Provide reminders, cueing, and support that promotes dignity and independence.
Observe residents for changes in physical, mental, or emotional condition and report concerns promptly.
Respond to pendant calls, resident requests, and urgent needs in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate medication records, communication logs, and required documentation.
Follow infection control, safety, confidentiality, and resident rights standards.
Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance initiatives.
Attend required in-services and maintain certifications/training.
Communicate professionally with residents, families, coworkers, pharmacy providers, and leadership.
Participate in shift handoff/report and communicate unresolved concerns.
Support a positive team environment and resident-centered culture.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Successful completion of Medication Technician training/certification as required by New Jersey or applicable state regulations.
Prior assisted living, senior living, caregiving, or medication administration experience preferred.
Ability to read physician orders, medication labels, and documentation accurately.
Strong attention to detail, dependability, and compassion.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist residents as needed.
Ability to push medication cart and complete scheduled medication passes.
Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
Assisted living community, including resident apartments, common areas, and memory care neighborhoods.
May require weekends, holidays, evening shifts, and flexible scheduling.
