Position Summary Medical Technician Attendants / Velarde Campus
Under direction of the assigned supervisor, perform professional level duties and functions associated with the treatment of substance abuse (drug and alcohol). Will assist in providing comprehensive detoxification and treatment services to clients within the program. Will provide lead instruction to staff as needed and may serve as trainer. Applicant must be able to pass a background check.
Duties and Responsibilities: Assist and support clients through addiction detoxification and recovery; observe, intervene and report client adherence to program goals and objectives.
- Work in conjunction with other department staff to administer scheduled program curriculum and other activities utilized for treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse.
- Process new clients, i.e., issuance of clothing, orientation to the rules of facilities and assist clients with daily activities, events and informational literature.
- Review files/records to insure accurate, updated documentation and provide written reports to program managers.
- Transport clients to appointments and other service locations outside of assigned program.
- Prepare and maintain progress notes and document behavioral incidents through observation of clients and maintain confidential records.
- Participate in reviews of job performance and adhere to recommended measures for change.
- Maintain security, order and discipline to prevent disturbances and insure the safety of residents, staff and community.
- Provide other supervisory support.
- Maintain current knowledge base on counseling issues regarding substance abuse through conferences, educational training and networking with other agencies or groups.
- Conduct and participate with training and staff development programs; assist in training and monitor staff facilitating groups.
- Assure for appropriate shift transition to include client count, equipment and keys, staffing and required documentation.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma, or GED, plus an interest in working in substance abuse field
- Must have knowledge of operations and activities of an addiction treatment program preferred.
- Must have knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse theory and treatment; knowledge of crisis intervention techniques preferred.
- Must have knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to client rights.
- Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with administration, subordinates and the general public.
- Must have the ability to analyze situations in a rational, mature and confident manner and to remain calm under stressful situations.
- Must have the ability to utilize discretion and independent judgment; ability to maintain confidentiality of client records at all times.
- Must be skilled in the use of computers to generate reports and maintain records.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to write reports.
- Must have the ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
