Job DescriptionPosition: Media and Digital Arts Instructor

The primary responsibilities of the Afterschool Media and Digital Arts Instructor are to develop fun, inquiry-based, and enriching activities for youth (K-8th grade) in order to encourage academic success, artistic expression, technology exposure, and digital media production. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County (BGCHC) program combines recreation and hands-on learning to support youth development, fostering skills in photography, videography, digital media arts, and computer technology. This program is designed to complement academic instruction provided in the classroom while offering a safe haven for children. An ideal candidate would be organized, dedicated to the academic and social enrichment of youth, and familiar with NJ State Licensing procedures. This position works closely with other BGCHC staff, parents, volunteers, interns, and community partners.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee media and digital arts-related activities such as photography, videography, digital editing, graphic design, and computer technology projects.
  • Prepare detailed lesson plans that incorporate both media arts and computer technology, including block coding, robotics, circuitry, problem-solving, Legos engineering, and animation.
  • Provide support for program participants in learning technology tools and software for media production and computer skills.
  • Facilitate creative and skill-building projects, such as video production, photo editing, coding, and digital storytelling.
  • Clearly explain instructions for all digital media and technology-related experiments and activities.
  • Ensure all activities are engaging and age-appropriate for participants.
  • Actively supervise and ensure member safety at all times.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with program participants, fostering an encouraging environment for creativity and learning.
  • Create a welcoming and youth-friendly classroom and studio space.
  • Attend regular staff planning and/or evaluation meetings.
  • Oversee volunteers, interns, and assistants in the classroom.
  • Attend trainings to maintain the mandatory annual 10 clock hours of child care training.
  • Maintain accurate records of programming, including daily attendance and activity lesson plans.
  • Maintain inventory of media arts and technology program supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all NJ State licensure rules and regulations.
  • Communicate program needs continuously with the Unit Director or designated staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in classrooms and studio spaces.
  • Assist with school pickups as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Media Arts, Digital Media, Film, Photography, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with school-age youth.
  • Proficiency in photography, videography, media editing software, coding, robotics, and other creative technology tools.
  • Knowledge of field concepts, practices, and principles related to media arts, digital arts, computer technology, and program planning.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
