Media & Library Specialist

Position Overview
Trinity School seeks a collaborative, curious, and forward-thinking Media Specialist to join our Elementary School faculty. This role sits at the intersection of media studies, library science, and digital literacy, co-teaching alongside our STEAM teacher to create rich, project-based learning experiences for students in grades 2–6.

The ideal candidate views media as a living subject worthy of study, questioning, creation, and extensive reading. They bring the range to teach library skills and spark a love of books for one period, and guide students through research, media production, and digital citizenship the next.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in library and information science, Media Studies, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting instruction in a K–8 or similar setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of instructional technology tools, media production, and research pedagogy.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills; comfort and enthusiasm for co-teaching.
  • Flexibility, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine willingness to learn alongside students and colleagues.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree or coursework in Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or Information Science.
  • Experience with maker education, design thinking, or project-based learning frameworks.
  • Experience with library management systems, collection development, and curating physical and digital resources.
  • Track record of designing creative library programming—such as book tastings, reading challenges, or student-led initiatives—that builds genuine enthusiasm for reading.
  • Background in or commitment to equity- and justice-oriented approaches to technology and media.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum
  • Co-teach with the STEAM teacher to deliver integrated, inquiry-driven learning experiences across grades 2–6.
  • Design and facilitate lessons in media studies, digital literacy, and research skills that are developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive.
  • Translate emerging technologies into meaningful classroom experiences grounded in project-based learning principles.
  • Build and iterate on both short-term lesson sequences and long-term programmatic goals in partnership with colleagues.
Collaboration & Program Development
  • Operate effectively as a co-teacher in an interdisciplinary classroom, sharing planning and instructional responsibilities.
  • Partner with classroom teachers across grade levels to embed technology and media literacy into the existing curriculum.
  • Contribute to school-wide conversations about responsible, equitable, and purposeful technology integration.
  • Maintain and develop the school's library and media resources in alignment with program goals.
Library Programming & Reading Culture
  • Teach library skills across grades 2–6, including research methods, information literacy, source evaluation, and responsible use of print and digital resources.
  • Cultivate a genuine love of reading through intentional, joyful programming that reflects the interests and identities of all students.
  • Design and lead unique library experiences that make the library a destination—such as book tastings, themed reading events, author celebrations, and genre exploration activities.
  • Develop and oversee a 6th-grade Library Volunteer Program, training student leaders to support library operations, mentor younger readers, and build a sense of stewardship and community.
  • Curate and maintain a current, diverse, and inclusive library collection aligned with student interests, classroom curricula, and school values.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to connect library programming with grade-level themes and reading goals.
Professional Growth
  • Stay current with emerging educational technologies and best practices in media literacy and digital citizenship.
  • Actively participate in professional development and contribute expertise to faculty learning communities.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

This is a salaried exempt position, not eligible for overtime, under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
This position reports to the Director of Education Technology.

Work Hours
  • Generally, hours are from 7:30 to 3:30 PM with additional requirements for carpool duties, and faculty meetings (generally one hour once per week).

  • Generally, new Faculty will work the hours above except Tuesday afternoons when new employees have New Faculty Academy for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Faculty and Staff rotate weekly morning carpool which starts at 7:30 AM and afternoon carpool which lasts a minimum of 30 minutes.
  • When necessary, the employee must be flexible in the ability to work more than her/his regular daily or weekly schedule to complete duties.
