Media, Marketing, Communications Manager at Dance Studio

This position is perfect for a creative individual with existing experience in media, marketing, or communications who also enjoyed participating in studio-trained dance at some point in their life.

JOB TITLE: Media, Marketing, Communications Manager & Receptionist.

JOB LOCATION: TranscenDance Studios, 120 Madison Street, Oak Park, IL 60302

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time (32-40 hours a week) beginning immediately with a period of on-the-job training.

COMPENSATION: Starting pay is $21 an hour. Alternative pay rate offered for any dance teaching hours if also employed with substitute capabilities.

REPORTING: This position works alongside other members of the administrative team at the front desk and reports to the Business Operations Manager. Coordination with Class Instructors occurs daily.

EMPLOYMENT SUMMARY: Dance studio in Oak Park is looking to fill a full-time, multi-title position which includes responsibilities of Media, Marketing, Communications, and Front Desk Staff. Group Class teaching hours may also be considered if appropriate.

A typical weekday for this position begins at 2:00pm with office work before customers arrive. This might include editing reels, compiling our newsletter, or designing graphics for an upcoming event. This position is also customer-facing, so some time will be spent responding to customer or internal emails and returning phone calls as well. Customers arrive for classes between 3:30pm and 8:30pm. This time is spent greeting students, assisting with customer service needs, filming content, and providing any needed support to instructors. The evening may finish by touching base with the Business Operations Manager on the day’s projects and closing the facilities for the end of the night.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Media

  • Sourcing, editing, producing graphics and video
  • Website (coordinating closely with Owner)
  • Social media - Concept videos, Promotional videos, Stories, Reels, Posts, Events
  • Recital projection media - Qlab files, Change time (concept, promo, general themed entertainment), Routine cyc projections, Dancergrams
  • Recital organization - Signage, Recital Stage Layouts, Practice videos, Practice music
  • Recital videos for customers - Editing & online distribution

2. Marketing

  • Brand alignment
  • Establish marketing goals and initiatives supporting Owner’s directives
  • Communicate marketing initiatives with all staff
  • Customer & market research
  • Producing marketing & promotional materials
  • Graphic design & content - flyers, social media, and web graphics
  • Managing online presence - Social Media, FB, IG, YT, Local Oak Park & dance online groups
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Specialty Listings (Hulafrog, etc.)
  • Website design and upkeep
  • Online advertising - Social Media, Google
  • Source events, B2B and other community outreach opportunities

3. Communications

  • Producing & updating internal communications - Handbooks, etc.
  • Producing & updating external communications - Information packets (Student Handbook, Audition Booklet, Summer Camp Handbook)
  • Newsletter creation & general studio communications oversight
  • Serving as public media liaison / spokesperson

4. Front desk & admin support

  • Supporting lobby presentation
  • Supporting lobby supervision
  • Supporting customer service
  • Assisting with Student Recommendation Form completion
  • Assisting with Team invitation completion
  • Additional administrative support as needed
  • Front desk emergency coverage as needed

SHIFT SUMMARY:

Hired employee will work 5 days a week and may be scheduled on a varying combination of weekday and weekend days. Schedules are typically established and remain the same for the session – Fall-Spring Session (August-June) and Summer Session (June-August).

A sample summer schedule might be:

  • Sunday 9:00am-5:00pm, Tuesday-Thursday 2:00-9:30pm

A sample fall schedule might be:

  • Tuesday-Friday 2:00-9:30pm, Saturday 8:30am-3:00pm

(Friday flexible ending time as early as 6:45pm pending special events)

(Fall schedule will include one weekend day)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Media, Marketing, Communications, or related field required
  • Experience in a media, marketing, or communications role (1-year minimum)
  • Background in dance required (6-year minimum)
  • Prior receptionist, administrative, or customer service experience preferred but not required
  • Applicants must submit to and pass a background check for working with children
  • Reliable mode of transportation enabling dependable timeliness required

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A love for dance and children
  • Pursuit of continued learning and growth by seeking and completing additional training and certifications in the areas of media, marketing, and communications
  • Strong competence in writing copy and proof-reading
  • Strong attention to written and numeric detail
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills
  • Enjoyment of administrative duties
  • Ability to use the following programs: Asana, Google Workspace, Apple iWork, Canva, iMovie or Final Cut Pro, GarageBand, Constant Contact, Band, GoHighLevel, Qlab, Shopify, Danceworks
  • Willingness to partake in light housekeeping duties when necessary (we have a separate custodial crew overnight)
  • Knowledge of dance industry trends, techniques, and best practices
  • Delight and creativity in content creation
