MEDIA TEACHER Full Time
*Description: The Teacher Librarian is an instructional and technology leader who administers the school library program. This person is responsible to teach relevant curriculum in alignment with the Davis School District DESK standards and also helps support school goals as defined in their School Improvement plan. They will engage the school community in recreational reading opportunities and help promote literacy and reading engagement at the school. He or she will develop and maintain a current library collection and library guidelines while following the district library policy. The library teacher creates and provides a safe environment for students and faculty to develop literacy skills using textual, digital, visual, and technological resources and tools to support academic learning, critical thinking, and recreational reading. They are also a collaborating partner with teachers to provide and teach literacy and research skills, along with other information relating to curriculum and media resources.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a current teaching license
- Library Media Endorsement or Master's degree in Library Science or in the process of acquiring either
- Teaching experience
- Experience and knowledge of library management and collection development (not required, but preferable)
- Varied literature reading background, computer literacy and multi-media knowledge (not required, but preferable)
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Full responsibility to develop and maintain a relevant and current library collection including the following tasks.
Circulating books among students and faculty with engaging tactics
Cataloging and processing library materials
Book maintenance and repair
Weeding or discarding outdated, damaged, irrelevant books and materials
Selecting and purchasing books and materials with various budgets
- Use Davis District DESK standards and State Core Standards to teach literacy skills in reading engagement, information research, and media engagement.
- Implement and follow school and district library policies
- Teach and instruct students with effective classroom management skills
- Communicate with students and faculty about library needs, resources, and events
- Plan and teach curricular lessons in collaboration with teachers
- Be a proactive leader in the school regarding school improvement and decisions
- Seek funding from grants and others sources to supplement library funds
- Provide professional development for staff on resources or technology
- Develop community connections to promote library activity in school and public venues
