Medical Administrative Coordinator (RN)

Salary Amount: $72,608 annually (monthly pay schedule)

The Sooner Job Challenge program residential phase serves up to 60 “At Risk” youth ages 17- to 21-year-old. The Program combines classroom work, technical school training, career development, community service, physical training, and team-building activities to enhance the life-skills and employability potential of these youth. Additional major elements of the program are: career skills, academic achievement, community building and outreach, fitness for life, resiliency and life skills, leadership/followership at work citizenship, healthy living, discipline, physical fitness, practical job skills training and character development. This program is a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week operation.

Education and Experience: Possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, or Registered Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) and three years of professional nursing experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or a bachelor’s degree in nursing and two years of professional nursing experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or a master’s degree and one year of professional nursing experience in a supervisory capacity.

Licenses/Certificates required: Registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, or Registered Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)

Benefits: This is a full-time state position that provides a percentage of matching contributions to employees’ retirement plans, 11 holidays, and a minimum of 15 days of annual and sick leave per year. Basic Purpose: Positions in this job family serve as the Sooner Job ChalleNGe program resident authority on personal and community health issues. The position is responsible for coordinating responses to requests for medical care, responding to immediate or emergency medical problems, and monitoring medical trends and issues. The position is also responsible for coordinating the operations and activities of the medical dispensary and equipment pool, providing education and training to staff and student, and performing a variety of other duties as assigned by the supervisor. The position reports to the Program Deputy Director and provides oversight to contract nurses and an on staff LPN.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates delivery of medical services to students, including serving as a resident authority and central point of contact for medical issues as well as providing oversight to contract nurses and med aides. This requires knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency medical care, personal health care issues, medical records management, and routine nursing procedures; general knowledge of medical billing insurance, Soonercare and worker’s compensation; medical equipment technologies; and a progressively responsible knowledge of Job ChalleNGe policies and procedures.
  • Serves as the Job ChalleNGe resident authority and central point of contact between parents and/or guardians, contract medical staff, pharmacies, medical office and hospital personnel, community health centers, and others on student health issues. Apprises cadre, counselors, teachers, and other appropriate staff of medical issues affecting student performance and program participation.
  • Serves as Job ChalleNGe primary point of contact for all medical related contracts (pharmacy, medical staffing agency, and outside medical provider). Develops and maintains these contracts and makes recommendations to program Deputy Director for changes as necessary. Responsible for updating the medical standing orders annually and sending to contract medical provider for signature.
  • Coordinates medical care for students, including office visits, hospital (ER visits), pharmaceutical needs, medical equipment, and other services. Determines the priority of requested treatment in conjunction with contracted medical personnel and coordinates appointments, and follow-up care for medical, dental, vision, and related health issues. Refers cases to off-site providers as appropriate and apprises Deputy Director, Director, and other staff of medical circumstances and responses.
  • Manages and analyzes medical records. Evaluate medical records to determine trends and issues affecting personal and community health; evaluates and makes recommendations based on medical records and medical history of applicants to determine suitability for acceptance to attend the program. Translate technical information to individuals of varied technical levels; and develop and maintain a professional rapport with parents, medical providers, students and other Job ChalleNGe staff.
  • Manages inventories of medical supplies.

Notes: This position is located at the Sooner Job ChalleNGe Program in Oklahoma City, OK.

Travel may be required at the expense of the employee to be reimbursed within 45 days of travel.
