Medical Assistant

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant (Back Office) to join our healthcare team in delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive care to patients of all ages within the Native American community. This role performs both clinical and administrative support functions to ensure efficient patient flow and quality service in a professional medical setting. The ideal candidate demonstrates attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document accurate patient medical histories, vital signs, and chief complaints.
  • Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and laboratory processing.
  • Administer immunizations and injections in accordance with standing orders and immunization schedules.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, TB skin tests, ear lavage, and point-of-care testing (strep, COVID-19, influenza, A1C, urinalysis, etc.).
  • Triaging pediatric patients and assisting with pediatric immunizations and growth tracking.
  • Prepare exam rooms, sterilize instruments, and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
  • Support providers during patient exams and minor procedures as needed.
  • Process medical referrals, diagnostic testing orders, and prior authorizations for medications or treatments.
  • Accurately enter and update patient information within the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and tribal/federal privacy regulations.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, and stocking of medical supplies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff training programs.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) required.

· Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required.

· Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience preferred (pediatric experience highly desirable).

· Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

· Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.

· Understanding of Native American community healthcare needs is a plus.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and assist patients as needed.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Exposure to biohazard materials and communicable diseases; personal protective equipment (PPE) provided.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.50 per hour
