Duties
- Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, updating records, and verifying insurance information using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates to support accurate diagnoses.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring comfort and explaining procedures clearly.
- Support physicians during examinations, including basic procedures like wound care, medication administration, and X-ray assistance when applicable.
- Manage medical documentation accurately, including ICD coding for diagnoses and procedures to ensure proper billing and recordkeeping.
- Perform basic laboratory tasks such as specimen collection or processing tests in outpatient or inpatient settings.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment while adhering to infection control protocols in diverse settings like emergency medicine, geriatrics, or surgical units.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Medical Assistant in various healthcare environments such as hospital medicine, outpatient clinics, or specialty departments like dermatology or internal medicine.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and basic life support (BLS) certification to provide safe patient care.
- Familiarity with EHR systems for documentation and patient management; experience with ICD coding is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with medication administration, X-ray procedures, or other diagnostic tests in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Strong communication skills to deliver exceptional patient service while supporting physicians with intake assessments and patient education.
- Experience working within Level I or Level II trauma centers is a plus; familiarity with emergency medicine protocols enhances your effectiveness in urgent care environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently across multiple departments including PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), OR (Operating Room), or Geriatrics units.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications related to hospital medicine or specialized areas are advantageous.
