Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, dedicated and passionate Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. Here at Ramon G Reyes MD, PA, we provide not only traditional primary care but also services that promote mental and social wellbeing in addition to physical health to ensure a holistic and restorative approach to healthcare. The Medical Assistant (MA) is a valuable and integral member of the care team, ensuring patients and providers experience visits smoothly by preparing the clinical environment and providing support in patient care. The MA practices within the scope of their certification and assists in identifying patient needs or problems and communicating information to the provider and the rest of the care team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Performs all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant’s practice. Operates diagnostic equipment (no test interpretation), remove staples from superficial wounds, changes wound dressings and obtains cultures, administers non-intravenous medication, performs EKGs, PTF's. Performs quality control checks on equipment. Prepares and sterilizes medical equipment.
· Rooms patients according to policy and procedures, prepares patients for examination.
· Records patient care documentation in the medical record accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic medical record system
· Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians, company standards and policies
· Safeguards patient information in accordance with HIPAA and treats patients and their families with courtesy and respect, demonstrating excellent customer service
· Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms and sterilizes instruments
· Practices standard infection control precautions
· Performs telephone, virtual, and in-person screenings limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring judgment based on clinical knowledge
· Supports and follows Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO)
· Performs all other related duties as assigned and supports the rest of the care team
Qualifications
Required:
· High school graduate or GED equivalent
· Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification
· Current BLS certification for healthcare providers (written exam and in-person assessment) at time of hire or within 30 days of hire
· Working knowledge of medical terminology
· Basic computer literacy with beginner level competency with MS Office (Outlook and Excel)
· Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
· Proven excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred:
·3+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant
· Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
· Bilingual English and Spanish
Physical and Mental Requirements:
· Ability to lift, push or pull >35 lbs. with assistance
· Ability to stand for extended periods of time
· Ability to use fine motor skills to operate equipment and/or machinery
· Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
· Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
· Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids
· Ability to discriminate shades of color when reading dipstick
Supervision: Reports to Clinic Administrator and works under supervision of a provider. Position has no supervisory responsibility.
