Job Title: Medical Assistant
Job Summary
The Medical Assistant at a detox facility plays a critical role in supporting clients undergoing withdrawal management and stabilization. This role involves assisting healthcare providers in delivering medical care, monitoring clients' physical and emotional well-being, and ensuring the facility operates efficiently and safely. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a compassionate, non-judgmental environment while adhering to regulatory standards and promoting client dignity and respect.
Key Responsibilities

Client Care and Monitoring:

Assist healthcare providers in conducting initial assessments and ongoing monitoring of clients.

Obtain and record vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and respiratory rate.

Monitor clients for signs of withdrawal or medical complications and report concerns to nursing staff or physicians immediately.

Administer medications as directed by licensed providers, ensuring accurate documentation.

Support clients with basic daily needs, such as hydration, meals, and personal hygiene, while respecting privacy and dignity.

Assist with medical procedures and treatments as instructed by healthcare providers.

Collect and process lab specimens, including urine drug screens, following facility protocols.

Maintain clean and stocked exam rooms, medication carts, and supply areas.

Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all interactions, observations, and procedures in the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Act as a first responder during medical or behavioral emergencies by alerting the appropriate team and providing basic support.

Follow established safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for clients and staff.

Schedule follow-up appointments or referrals for ongoing treatment post-detox.

Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, including medication administration logs and health assessments.

Ensure accurate insurance and billing documentation, if applicable.

Work closely with nursing, counseling, and administrative staff to provide holistic care.

Communicate effectively with clients and their families, offering reassurance and support during the detox process.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.

Current CPR/BLS certification required.

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a medical or behavioral health setting, preferably in addiction or detox services.

Strong understanding of medical terminology, vital signs monitoring, and withdrawal symptoms.

Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care, with the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
Physical Requirements
