Job Title: Medical Assistant – Cardiac & Vascular
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to support our Cardiac and Vascular practice. This role combines both clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care for patients with cardiovascular and peripheral vascular conditions. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced specialty environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, and document chief complaints
- Perform EKGs and assist with cardiac and vascular diagnostic testing
- Assist providers during examinations and in-office procedures
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness and readiness between patients
- Administer injections and perform phlebotomy (if trained)
- Accurately document patient information in the EMR in a timely manner
- Coordinate patient flow and support efficient clinic operations
- Provide patient education and reinforce provider instructions
- Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and care coordination
Administrative Duties:
- Communicate with patients via phone and electronic systems in a professional manner
- Take messages, triage concerns, and relay information to providers; follow up with patients as directed
- Ensure all labs, reports, and relevant documentation are available prior to patient visits
- Schedule appointments and assist in maintaining provider and procedure schedules
- Coordinate hospital admissions and related arrangements
- Communicate with pharmacies regarding prescriptions and refills
- Maintain adequate inventory of medical and office supplies
- Ensure proper functioning of medical equipment; arrange for maintenance and repairs as needed
- Maintain required logs (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, medication checks, expiration tracking)
- Monitor and adjust provider schedules to optimize workflow

- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Medical Assistant certification and CPR certification preferred but not required
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medications, and injection procedures
- Familiarity with referral processes, including ICD-10 and CPT coding
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer proficiency and EMR experience
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent or emergent situations
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to hear and communicate clearly in person and by telephone
- Visual acuity sufficient for patient care and computer work
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and repetitive hand movements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when necessary
- Exposure to typical clinical conditions, including bodily fluids and communicable diseases
Work Environment:
Outpatient cardiac and vascular clinic setting. Occasional weekend work may be required based on clinic needs.
Preferred Experience:
- Medical office experience: 1 year
- Vital signs and patient care experience: 1 year
- EMR system experience: 1 year
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Medical Assistant Certification
