Nature of Work:
Embraces and Embodies Tucson Indian Center’s (TIC) Identity Document’s Mission, Purpose and Vision Statements; Core Values; The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for the intake of clients and preparing them to be seen by the Medical Practitioners. The MA performs office skills, obtains baseline physical data, assists in the efficient operation of the Medical Clinic, provides primary maintenance of the laboratory, and assists the medical staff as necessary. The Medical Assistant works under the primary supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and general supervision by the Family Practice Physician.
Essential Functions:
1. Laboratory duties: (in conjunction with other ancillary medical staff)
2. Maintenance of equipment, such as vaccine and specimen storage units, diagnostic equipment.
3. Maintenance of sterile instruments.
4. Assist practitioners as needed during their examinations.
5. Follow Patient Preparation Guidelines and updates.
6. Provide child/adult caretakers with information on the immunizations to be administered, assist in completing the necessary forms for immunization administration, and administer immunizations and skin test.
7. Assist the medical practitioners as a patient advocate and in other ways consistent with the MA training.
8. Disinfect re-usable clinic equipment.
9. Keep exam rooms clean and stocked.
10. Empty biohazard bags into biohazard container/bin after every clinic.
11. Usage of EKG machine.
12. Performs SVN treatments
13. Performs patient call backs.
14. Calls in prescriptions to pharmacy.
15. Understands medical terminology.
16. Confirms authorization for referrals to outside facilities per Family Practice Physician.
17. As per Medical Assistant training, able to perform immunizations, skin testing, and other injections, such as Depo-Provera injections and antibiotic injections.
18. May provide at-home and/or mobile Medical Assistant services.
19. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
