Medical Assistant

About the Role:

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare staff. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Certification in phlebotomy and knowledge of specimen processing procedures.
  • Proficiency in taking and recording vital signs accurately.
  • Experience with sterilization techniques and medical instrument handling.
  • Strong communication skills for patient interaction and administrative duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners or in a similar clinical setting.
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional training in patient education and healthcare compliance.
  • Bilingual abilities to support diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
  • Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners, during medical procedures and examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy and draw blood samples accurately and safely.
  • Process and label specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain a clean clinical environment to prevent infection.
  • Answer phones, schedule patient appointments, and manage patient flow within the clinic.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations.

Skills:

The required skills such as Medical Assisting, phlebotomy, and specimen processing are essential for performing clinical tasks accurately and safely, ensuring patient comfort and reliable diagnostic results.
