Perform administrative and certain clerical duties under the direction of providers and supervisor or manager. Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, drape and position patients, hand equipment, visual fields and inventory supplies, including EMR, patient scheduling, charge slips and routine patient instructions and knowledge of CPR.
- Schedules and confirms patient appointments.
- Registers and updates patient data accurately in the EHR systems.
- Sends appropriate documentation and information to internal and external offices.
- Maintains positive patient relations and communications.
- Assures timeliness of services rendered to patients.
- Clearly informs patients of the name of the Provider who will be providing care.
- Arranges for and assists patient in understanding instructions for all ancillary services.
- Listens to and addresses patient complaints regarding services rendered.
- Demonstrates proper triage techniques when handling phone calls and inquiries from patients.
- Accurately manages the filling records, telephone messages, and prescription refill information in electronic medical records.
- Checks floor stock and sample medications; discards expired medication appropriately and reorders as needed.
- Demonstrates accurate knowledge and response in emergency situations.
- Escorts patients to exam rooms.
- Ensure patients comfort while on premises.
- Remains available to assist the examining provider as needed.
- Accurately performs visual testing and on-site testing.
- File all patient lab results, X-rays, EKGs, Scans, and miscellaneous documents after provider has sign-off.
- Assist the provider in all medical examinations.
- Maintains set-up for collection of all cultures and arranges transportation to laboratory.
- Assist in minor procedures, positioning and draping patients, and passing instruments.
- Responsible for inventory, supply ordering, and general facility maintenance.
- Screens incoming telephone calls for referrals and takes accurate messages for providers.
- Administers injections under the direction of under the direction of a provider, including vitamins and other non-scheduled medications. For scheduled drugs (e.g., narcotics), the dose must be verified by the provider prior to administration and must be given intradermally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly.
- Compiles and summarizes technical and statistical data for reports and records.
- Maintains and updates required logs accurately.
- Provides translation and interpretation for providers and office staff as needed.
- Assists in preparing the office for site reviews and audits.
- Perform duties as directed by providers and management.
- Calls in prescriptions or prescription refills as directed by the provider.
- Maintains patient care areas, including:
- Daily cleaning of all common areas.
- Immediately cleaning following any infectious exposure.
- Daily supply inventory and appropriate ordering.
- Consistent enforcement of patient confidentiality standards.
- Understands and follows all procedures for requests and release of information.
- Obtains necessary signatures and ensures provider or manager is aware of information request.
- Ascertains that providers or manager is aware of request for information.
- Submits requested information in accordance with proper procedures.
- Reports equipment or supply needs to administrator.
- Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly.
- Maintains general office and medical equipment, including copiers, computers, printers, CPR carts, and emergency supplies.
- Travels to other clinic sites occasionally, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Medical Assistant Certification – Preferred
- CPR – Required
- Certification through AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) – Preferred
- 1 – 2 years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant – Preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent - Required
- Fluent in English – Required
- Additional language skills may be required depending on clinic needs (e.g., Spanish, Russian, Farsi).
- Medical Assistant: 2 years (Preferred)
- EMR systems: 1 year (Preferred)
- Vital signs: 1 year (Preferred)
