Medical Assistant

Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician

Department: Clinical Services
Reports To: Clinical Manager / Supervisor

Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care by assisting ophthalmologists with clinical procedures, diagnostic testing, and patient education. This position requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical environment

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination by obtaining and documenting medical and ocular histories
  • Perform preliminary eye testing, including but not limited to:
  • Visual acuity testing
  • Refraction (as trained)
  • Tonometry
  • Pupillary assessment
  • Extraocular muscle testing
  • Perform diagnostic testing as ordered, such as:
  • OCT
  • Visual fields
  • Fundus photography
  • Topography (as applicable)
  • Assist physicians during examinations and minor procedures
  • Accurately document findings in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Educate patients on procedures, medications, and follow-up care
  • Administer eye drops and medications per physician direction
  • Maintain clean, stocked, and organized exam rooms
  • Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with providers, staff, and patients
  • Support clinic flow by managing patient volume efficiently
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support practice operations

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to assist patients and adjust equipment
  • Manual dexterity for clinical testing and computer use

Work Environment

  • Clinical ophthalmology practice
  • Frequent interaction with patients and providers
  • Exposure to medical equipment and testing devices

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $17.50 - $23.00 per hour
