Medical Assistant

MEDICAL ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

Deschutes Family Care has been serving Central Oregon since 2015. We are a physician owned primary clinic designed for individuals and multi-generational families in a small intimate setting. We currently have two primary care providers. Our goal is to keep the practice small to deliver high quality care. We are looking to hire a part-time or per diem
Medical Assistant to help us maintain this high quality of care by supporting the providers and administrative staff with clinic and administrative duties.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a member of the team who provides direct patient care and provider support. The goal is to provide coordinated patient centered clinical support related to visit-level care. The MA facilitates the coordinated planning of office visits via patient and team collaboration, the initial rooming of patients during office visits (including medication reconciliation, risk factor review, and health maintenance review), provider support during office visits, reviews with patient the plan of care, and assists with follow-up as needed. In addition, the MA may also perform administrative support such as, answering phones, performing prior authorizations, preparing referrals, making results calls to patients and other tasks as requested by medical providers and admin staff.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care

  • Pre-visit chart scrub (EMR) (Including, but not limited to referral reports, review medications, allergies, future and standing lab orders, and preventive care needs)
  • Visit prep: procedures/vaccine prep/foot exam
  • Medication and allergy reconciliation
  • Rooming the patient (including, but not limited to vitals/medical records/history)
  • Prepare, administer, and document medications and vaccines
  • Assist with clinical procedures
  • Review provider recommendations and after visit summary (AVS) with patient
  • Patient Communication
  • Address patient cases via electronic health records
  • Coordinate appointments with specialists, for procedures or tests for patient

Clinic Operations

  • Care of the clinic, maintain cleanliness
  • Supply ordering
  • Room Stocking
  • Sterile Instrument Processing
  • Quality Assurance routine tasks (including but not limited to running controls, checking exp. dates, etc.)
  • Answering phones

SUPPORTING JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate access to chart documents as requested by patient following Medical Records workflows
  • May facilitate access to remote patient visits, which may include telephone, video, etc.
  • Attend meetings, team huddles and assigned trainings.
  • Address in a timely manner, correspondence which includes but is not limited to Outlook, EHR encounters, in-basket, etc.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, guidelines, and workflows.
  • Perform safe work practices to protect the health and safety of employees and patients per OSHA regulation.
  • Protect individually identifiable health information per HIPAA regulation.
  • Proper and timely documentation in EMR.
  • Complete all required compliance training within the established timeline.
  • Utilize the incident reporting system as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Work Experience:

  • 0-2 year(s) of healthcare experience or Bachelor’s degree in related field may be considered in lieu of experience

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
  • CPR certification required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Required within 12 months of hire MA Certification from one of the following organizations:

  • the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technology Association (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) or the National Health Career Association (NHA) OR licensure as EMT basic or higher, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN. BLS/CPR required.

Skills & Knowledge: Critical thinking and problem solving skills. Must have excellent written, verbal, telephone and interpersonal communication skills. Familiarity/experience with client interaction on the telephone.

Knowledge of available basic community services. Basic typing skills (such as 30 WPM). Basic personal computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Windows® operating system. EHR experience, EPIC experience a plus.

Pay: $25.00 - $28.50 per hour
