Job Title: Medical Assistant
Department: Inspired Spine Health Nursing
Hours: 32-40 weekly
Job Summary
Medical Assistants (MAs) play an integral role in supporting the nursing team and healthcare providers in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. The MA is responsible for facilitating efficient patient flow, managing clinical documentation, coordinating communication with patients and pharmacies, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. This role requires strong clinical acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced medical environment.
Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited institution
- Licensure:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
- Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in a clinical outpatient setting preferred
- Prior experience working in spine care, orthopedic, or neurosurgery practice is a plus
- Special Skills:
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of medical terminology and clinical workflows
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain and document detailed patient histories, including symptom reports, into the EHR system
- Triage and respond to patient phone calls, routing messages appropriately and escalating urgent concerns
- Place electronic orders for imaging or medications based on the provider's written Plan of Care
- Communicate with pharmacies to confirm prescriptions and assist in securing prior authorizations when necessary
- Discuss surgical consents with patients and ensure that all necessary prerequisites and documentation are met according to protocol.
- Review incoming Physical Therapy documentation and deliver it promptly to the appropriate provider for review
- Assist providers by preparing FMLA paperwork, work restrictions, and return-to-work notes as directed
- Educate patients on standard postoperative restrictions and care guidelines as outlined by the providers
- Conduct thorough reviews of patient records and clinical chart notes to support provider decision-making
- Manage and resolve electronic patient cases, including incoming medical records and patient messages, or escalate appropriately
- Ensure all clinical and administrative tasks are completed efficiently to support smooth daily operations of the nursing team
Daily Workflow
- Work on provider orders based on documented notes and Plan of Care
- Prioritize and respond to patient communications throughout the day
- Coordinate tasks based on provider schedules and patient care needs
- Document all actions and communications in the EHR promptly and accurately
- Collaborate closely with fellow staff on nursing team to maintain seamless care transitions and follow-up
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $27.00 per hour
