Duties
- Prepare patients for examinations by taking comprehensive histories and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates.
- Assist healthcare providers during procedures across specialties including dermatology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and surgical settings.
- Manage patient intake processes efficiently by verifying insurance information, updating medical records in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, and documenting clinical notes accurately.
- Support diagnostic procedures such as X-ray imaging or basic laboratory tests, ensuring proper preparation and safety protocols are followed.
- Administer medications and injections under supervision, adhering to safety standards like Basic Life Support (BLS) guidelines.
- Perform ICD coding for diagnoses to facilitate billing and insurance claims processing.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment while complying with infection control standards; assist with inventory management of medical supplies and medications.
- Provide compassionate patient service by answering questions, offering instructions for follow-up care, and supporting patients through their visit journey.
- Collaborate with hospital teams in inpatient units like the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Geriatrics wards, or Level I Trauma Centers to deliver seamless care coordination.
- Document all clinical activities thoroughly in EHR systems and assist with administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling and patient follow-up.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant in outpatient clinics or hospital settings; experience in dermatology, urgent care, hospital medicine, or emergency medicine is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic pharmacology essential for accurate patient assessment and documentation.
- Familiarity with EHR systems for efficient data entry and retrieval; experience with ICD coding is preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as X-ray tech or OR experience are advantageous.
- Ability to perform clinical procedures including vital signs measurement, medication administration, specimen collection, and assisting with diagnostic tests like X-ray imaging.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach; ability to communicate clearly with diverse patient populations including geriatrics and pediatric patients in various settings such as outpatient clinics or inpatient units.
- Hospital experience within Level II trauma centers or Level I trauma centers is a plus; familiarity with medical-surgical units or ICU environments enhances your candidacy.
