Medical Assistant – Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

About the Practice

Our practice is dedicated to advanced facial nerve and facial reanimation surgery, combining cutting-edge reconstructive techniques with compassionate, patient-centered care. We work closely with patients navigating complex functional and emotional challenges related to facial paralysis, synkinesis, trauma, and reconstructive facial conditions.

This role is ideal for motivated, compassionate, detail-oriented individuals who thrive in a fast-paced medical setting and want substantial hands-on exposure to surgery, patient care, and clinical medicine.

Position Overview

The Medical Assistant serves as an integral member of the clinical team and works directly alongside surgeons, advanced practice providers, and patients throughout all phases of care. Responsibilities include assisting with office-based procedures, perioperative patient management, photography and documentation, wound care, and administrative coordination.

This position provides extensive exposure to:

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians during in-office procedures and treatments
  • Prepare procedure rooms and maintain sterile instruments and supplies
  • Perform postoperative care including:
  • Suture removal
  • Dressing changes
  • Wound management
  • Patient education
  • Obtain medical histories
  • Capture standardized clinical photography for documentation and treatment planning
  • Assist with patient flow and room turnover
  • Support preoperative and postoperative patient care coordination
  • Conduct preoperative and postoperative phone calls to patients
  • Help monitor patient progress and communicate concerns to providers

Administrative & Coordination Responsibilities

  • Obtain insurance pre-authorizations and verify coverage
  • Maintain accurate patient records and data management systems
  • Assist with surgical documentation and chart preparation
  • Communicate with pharmacies, outside physicians, therapists, and hospitals as needed
  • Support research, outcomes tracking, and academic projects when applicable

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or completion of a medical assistant program preferred
  • Strong interest in healthcare, surgery, or medicine required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Professionalism, maturity, and compassion when working with patients
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Prior medical experience preferred but not required
