Position
The Medical Assistant is responsible for accurately rooming patients, assisting with phone duties and ensuring communication between the Physician, the APP and Nurse, in order to give safe and competent clinical care to the patients of Raleigh Neurology. This is a float position- working within our Raleigh and Durham offices.
Essential Job Functions
- Follow each Providers protocol when rooming patients and report any problems to the Nurse or Provider.
- Accurately able to monitor and record Vital signs
- Accurately and proficiently transcribe medications, take medical histories and initiate neurology visit per clinical update in EHR.
- Report to Nurse any changes and/or concerns after rooming patient.
- Ability to maintain schedule for the day and keep flow going between Physician, APP and Nurse.
- Phone Duties including prescription refills, records, reports, etc. as directed by the Nurse.
- If phone skills and proficiency have been checked-off by Nurse - May assist in calling patients with answers, to obtain Information from patients, call-in prescription refills as directed by the Nurse. The Nurse must monitor these activities.
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Preparing patients for examination and Assisting the provider during the exam if necessary
- Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
- Instructing patients about medications and special diets
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by a Provider
- Cover other clinical staff when necessary
Requirements
- Excellent knowledge of and ability with computer systems
- Must have training in the field of Medical Assisting
- Certification or registry in Medical Assisting (CMA or RMA) preferred
- Sensitivity to patient problems and concerns
- Current BLS certification
